ReLax Collections Redistributes New and Used Lacrosse Equipment to Promote Education

OUR MISSION

Students who drop out of high school are more likely to live in poverty, face substance abuse or other social problems. Athletics motivate students to stay in school, if initially only to be eligible to play sports, but it also develops a sense of persistence, time management, and offers the possibility of success. With a reason to come to school, student-athletes attend more often than non-athletes and have a graduation rate of 98% compared to a graduation rate of 90% for non-athletes. Athletes score higher on state tests, in all subjects. If you can improve attendance, you will improve learning.

Lacrosse is a spring sport, which means that a student-athlete must attend a full year of school to compete in the final third of the year. The game adapts to most playing fields, and the equipment is now mass produced and is readily available.  Most athletes can be taught to play the game and with practice, can become proficient playing lacrosse. Throwing the ball with another player or throwing the ball against a wall will quickly develop a player’s skills and enjoyment for the game.

OUR HISTORY

In 2014 our founder Will Dadouris signed up for a service trip with the Lacrosse Volunteer Corps with a non-profit organization called Fields of Growth. Before leaving for my trip, each volunteer was asked to fill two duffel bags with used lacrosse equipment donations for the players. Will collected enough equipment to fill his parents’ garage and needed the help of the other volunteers to transport it all. Standing on the field, coaching players that were wearing the equipment he had helped to collect for them. He knew he needed to do more. Collect more. Grow more. Help more.

When he returned home, he founded his own nonprofit organization, ReLax Collections, to directly support the universal mission to Grow the Game.  He quickly realized that he needed help and reached out to classmate Kaitlyn Sleyster to join the team. As of today, ReLax has collected over $5,000,000 worth of used and new lacrosse equipment, supporting over 50 teams across the USA and in 25+ countries. We would not have been able to do any of this if companies like Adidas, Cascade, Stringking, and East Coast Dyes weren’t willing to take a chance on a 14-year-old kid that was filled with passion.
